In 2002, before passing away due to complications with diabetes, J. Wilbur handed down the recipe for his beloved Memphis-style barbeque sauce to his son, Andrew. Andrew then brought J. Wilbur's amazing BBQ sauces to market by founding J. Wilbur Foods in 2006. Andrew created the brand around his father's memory and there are several tributes to J. Wilbur on the label including the company name, his distinctive signature, watermark map of Memphis and J. Wilbur's birth year of 1931.
As an additional tribute to Andrew's father, a portion of every J. Wilbur product sold is donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Seattle Guild, which is dedicated to the fight against diabetes.”
J. Wilbur is proud to be a founding sponsor of the 1st annual MDA Passport to a Cure Gala and Andrew was named as Chair and emcee for the event. The inaugural event was held at the Westin in Seattle on Nov 12, 2016 and over $60,000 was raised for MDA Western Washington to help fund their efforts with offering support services, advocacy and education for the individuals who have been stricken by the more than 40 forms of muscular dystrophy and related diseases.
